Sheet Metal Fabricator J4. (First Calss) 

 

Shift :  0600 – 1445 or 1430 – 2200  Monday – Friday

Security Clearance: No Clearance

GUIDELINES FOR SHEETMETAL FABRICATOR/MECHANIC

Function: The Fabricators are responsible for accomplishing work in accordance with work specifications safely, with the highest quality, in a professional manner

 

Functions May Include:

  • Plan, lay out, assemble, and repair sheet metal parts, equipment, and products, utilizing knowledge of working characteristics of metallic and nonmetallic materials, machining, and layout techniques
  • Use hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment
  • Read, and interpret blueprints, sketches, or product specifications to determine sequence and methods of fabricating, assembling, and installing sheet metal products
  • Select gauges, types, and quantities of materials according to product specification
  • Lay out and mark dimensions and reference lines on material, using scribes, dividers, squares, tape / ruler, and protractors, applying knowledge of shop mathematics and layout techniques to develop and trace patterns of product or parts
  • Set up and operate fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rollers, ironworkers, and routers
  • Shape metal material over anvil, blocks, or other forms, using heat, and hand tools
  • Cut, grind, file, deburr, smooth, and polish surfaces using hand, and power tools
  • Weld, solder, rivet, screw, bolt, caulk and bond component parts to assemble products using hand, and power tools, and equipment
  • Install assemblies in supportive framework according to blueprints, and sketches, using hand tools, power tools, and lifting, and handling devices
  • Responsible for keeping work area, machines, and equipment safe, clean, and in good working order
  • Assure that any other safety issues are complied with that relate to the specific job being accomplished (Example: special staging, face shields for grinding, protective clothing for hot work-related jobs, breathing apparatus with correct cartridges, etc.)
  • Assure that Earl’s Torch Safety Procedures, including testing, are utilized for all torch work
  • Assure that fire watches are assigned and maintained in the proper position.
  • Assure that you are trained or qualified for the work you are assigned to do (Example: JLG, forklift, welding, brazing, special electrical / mechanical repairs and etc.)
  • Assure that you and personnel working under your direction are working as safely and as productively as possible maintaining quality control at all times
  • Assure that job site is left in a safe and clean condition prior to departure
  • Assure that a 30-minute cool down period has been accomplished in hot work areas

 

 

Qualifications:  

  • Minimum of 5 years directly related experience
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds
  • Works well with others
  • Considerable attention required to prevent injury to self and others when working on ladders and scaffolds
  • Must possess varying degrees of precision and control in work where damage could be considerable
