Job Summary:
Nationwide Skilled Trades is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Manager to oversee ship construction and/or repair projects. The Project Manager is responsible for the planning, execution, and successful delivery of projects, ensuring adherence to cost, schedule, quality, and safety objectives. This position works closely with internal departments, U.S. Navy and commercial customers, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning and execution of shipyard projects, including new ship construction, conversions, or ship repair/refit operations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between NASSCO and the customer (e.g., U.S. Navy, MSC, commercial clients).
- Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, resources, deliverables, and risks from start to finish.
- Coordinate efforts between engineering, production, supply chain, QA, and safety teams to meet project milestones.
- Monitor work progress daily and prepare regular status updates, reports, and performance metrics.
- Drive resolution of technical and logistical challenges to avoid project delays or cost overruns.
- Track earned value management (EVM), schedule performance index (SPI), and cost performance index (CPI) where applicable.
- Ensure all work complies with contract specifications, NAVSEA standards, and applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., ABS, USCG).
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead or participate in project reviews, customer meetings, and internal coordination briefings.
- Manage subcontractors and vendor performance within project scope and terms.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business, Project Management, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Minimum 5–8 years of shipyard, defense/maritime, or heavy industrial project management experience.
- Strong understanding of shipbuilding or ship repair processes, including production, engineering, and logistics.
- Proven track record managing complex projects with cross-functional teams and tight deadlines.
- Familiar with NAVSEA Standard Items, DoD contracting, and government project reporting requirements (e.g., CDRLs, CPRs).
- Proficient in Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or other scheduling software.
- Solid financial acumen and understanding of budgets, forecasts, and cost tracking.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications & Certifications:
- PMP Certification (Project Management Professional)
- Familiarity with Earned Value Management (EVM) systems
- Prior experience managing U.S. Navy DDG, LSD, and LHD projects
- OSHA 30 Maritime Safety Certification
- Must be able to access Government facilities and be DBIDS eligible.
Work Environment:
- Shipyard setting involving time in both office and field (onboard ships, dry docks, etc.)
- Exposure to industrial environments, including loud noise, varying weather, and physical hazards.
- May require travel between job sites or extended hours based on project phase.
