Job Summary:
Nationwide Skilled Trades is seeking an experienced 1st Class Pipe Fitter to operations at a Shipyard in Norfolk, VA.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for the layout, installation, maintenance, and repair of pipe systems aboard ships and other marine vessels.
This role requires strong technical skills, precision, and a thorough understanding of shipboard systems and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, and technical specifications.
- Lay out, assemble, install, and secure piping systems using hand tools and power tools.
- Fit and tack weld pipe supports, valves, and other piping components.
- Perform hydrostatic and air tests on installed piping systems.
- Cut, thread, and bend pipe using pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, and pipe-bending tools.
- Work with various types of pipe materials (e.g., copper-nickel, stainless steel, carbon steel).
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Ensure all work meets shipyard quality standards and specifications.
- Collaborate with welders, pipe designers, and other trades as needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3-5 years experience as a pipe fitter in a shipyard or marine environment.
- Proficiency in blueprint reading and pipe fabrication.
- Knowledge of pipefitting procedures, tools, and equipment.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights, as required.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks daily.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations and practices in a shipyard setting.
- Ability to obtain security clearance and access to naval or commercial vessels (if applicable).
Preferred Certifications:
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Maritime
- Brazing Certification (if required)
- Pipefitting Trade School or Apprenticeship Program
Work Environment:
- Outdoor/indoor shipyard environment; exposed to varying weather conditions.
- Potential exposure to loud noise, hazardous materials, and heavy machinery.
- Work may be required during off-hours, weekends, and overtime depending on project schedules.
