We are seeking 2 Insulators – J1 – J4 to join our Lagging department in Norfolk, Virginia. Key responsibilities include reading and interpreting insulation drawings, designing and fabricating lagging pads, and installing lagging pads on pipe flanges and ventilation systems. Additional duties include fabricating miters out of calcium silicate and installing calcium silicate on properly sized steam systems. Journeyman 4 mechanics must meet all Journeyman 3 requirements, while Journeyman 3 must meet Journeyman 2 requirements. Journeyman 2 must meet Journeyman 1 requirements. Journeyman 1 Insulation Mechanics must understand ship nomenclature, read tape measures, and use basic insulation tools.
- Read and interpret insulation drawings, layout, and install
- Design and fabricate lagging pads
- Install lagging pads on pipe flanges, valves, ventilation systems, and engine exhaust systems
- Fabricate miters out of calcium silicate
- Install calcium silicate and fabricated miters on properly sized steam systems
- Install sheet rubber, tube rubber, and fiber glass pipe covering on steam and chill water systems
- Lay out overhead and bulkhead structures properly
- Tape out hull board seams on overhead and bulkhead structures properly using different size fiber glass tape
- Install hull board of different size thickness on any ship structures properly
- Fabricate and install box beams and wraps on ship structures
- Perform job safely using proper personal protective equipment
